Pathe Was Initially Founded In Paris, France On September 28th 1896. Pathe Became The Largest Production Company In The World. The Company Co-Produces Movies And Distributes Films In France, Switzerland, And The UK. They Are One Of The Top Film Producers In Europe, And Play A Leading Role In Film Distribution. Whether Intended For A Mass Market Or A Niche Audience, Pathe’s Goal Is To Reach As Many Moviegoers As Possible Through A Wide Range Of Genres And Styles.
Pathé Operates Its Own Network Of 300 Movie Theaters, Owns Its Own Cable Television And Satellite Television Networks And Also, Owns The Daily Newspaper ‘Liberation’. The Company Had 11 Films Distributed In France and 9 In The UK In 2007. However, They Have 550 Films In The Film Library.

Until 1999, Pathé Also Got Involved In A 17% Share In BSkyB Television, Jointly Owned By Rupert Murdoch, And A 20% Share Of Canal Satellite, Which Is The Leading Satellite Television Provider In France. As A Result, These Two Holdings Represented The Largest Parts Of Pathe’s Revenues. By 1896, The Lumière Brothers Had Realised That The First Films Success Would Encourage Pathe To Not Only Enter The Film Making Business, But Also To Film Distribution. Film Distribution Was Becoming More And More Important To Pathé's Proceeds. In The Mid – 1960’s, The Company’s Only Rival Was ‘Gaumont'. By 1909, Pathé Had Built More Than 200 Movie Theaters In France And Belgium. By 1910, They Had Facilities In Madrid, Moscow, Rome, New York City, Australia And Japan.

1935 - Pathé Went Bankrupt!

In 1943, The Company Was Required To Undertake A Reformation. Throughout The 1970’s, Operating Theatres Overtook Film Production As Pathe’s Primary Source Of Making Profits.
